BIRTHDAY - PART 1
I celebrated my 32nd birthday last month. B had told me earlier on that he’s not big on birthdays and he’s never good at remembering people’s birth dates. So, I thought fine…let’s not put my hope too high for anything special to mark the occasion.
Called B up on the eve of my birthday, asking if he’s interested to go for dinner. He politely declined. Said that he had something to do that evening. So, I suggested pizza, home delivery. He agreed. So, we had Dominoes pizza for dinner, the way we always like it….in front of the TV! Hahahahaha… (We can be such juveniles when we’re together!).
To cut the long story short, I thought that was it. That WAS my birthday celebration and honestly, I was not intending to complain. The thing with B is, he makes me feel so special everyday that I am not so “touchy” when we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day (I get flowers every now and then from B. He does not wait for Valentine’s Day to do so) or we don’t go out to fancy restaurants to celebrate my birthday. My theory is that I am well compensated throughout the year. With my previous relationships, I looked forward to these special days because that would be the only occasions (more often than not!) when I would feel special. So, celebrating these days was vital to me. With B, it’s different. We don’t need a reason to celebrate. Being together is a good enough reason for a celebration. I know, it sounds very clichéd, but it’s real.
Let me just backtrack slightly…Midnight arrived, he left the living room and moments later, came back with a card and a cute golden box in his hand. Let’s just leave the dialogue muted here :D
I opened the box and the content was beautiful.
“You thought I had forgotten your birthday, didn’t you?” he asked. I smiled sheepishly.
“Sorry for not taking you out to dinner. I was searching for the perfect gift for you”, he added.
I want him to know there’s no need to say sorry. The dinner that we had was good enough. We had fun; we laughed and watched our favourite dvd. Though we only makan bersila in front of the TV, it beats any wining and dining at some fancy restaurants.
And the gift??? It was DIVINE…(very BIG grin). I have it around my neck all the time.
Aaah…What a wonderful birthday.
I love that man...heaps.
